11 Week Ultrasound Pictures

I was able to get a quick peek at the little ones at my first OB appointment last week.
It wasn't a vaginal ultrasound this time but I think I got some good images.
It still doesn't feel real to me. Still very cautious at times. I almost forget that I am pregnant until I see them on the screen.
I really want a home Doppler but Husband won't let me.
Kinda torn about the First Trimester screening.
Husband doesn't really want the NT scan but will do it.
I'm confused because I heard that there are a lot of false positives and also that the numbers are already skewed because of my age.

I really need some help or feedback about NT scans.
If any of you have experience with it please share.

Sorry my scanner is a bit old.

I've got 47 thoughts, but am replying from my phone an while try to by best ;-).

On the Doppler: I am 100% with your husband. It was nice on occasion with my singleton, but I never tried it last time since I was told by the doctor and random people on the Internet that decerning between the babies was not possible. That's why they do an ultrasound at every appointment instead of Doppler. That said, I've tried this twin pregnancy several times. I KNOW better, but I just have less confidence and so do silly things like this after the loss of one twin last time just past 24 weeks. And everyone was right last time. First, it's hard to find. I'm a day shy of 13 weeks and so the manual says I should be good, but no. And if I do seem to find one, I've had the weird ghost echo thing that makes the readout not work as well. Having the Doppler is easily worse for me than not having it. If I really need assurance, I should just call up my OB to get worked in for a quickie ultrasound.

On the NT scan, despite having had it with the other pregnancies, I was considering not doing it. I'm not going to terminate either baby and I don't even think I'd consider the risk of an amniocentesis, so I figured why bother. My OB countered that she wanted me to get into the perinatologist for a baseline at 12 weeks since the first I would see them otherwise would be 16.

I found this page which I thought had a lot of good info on the NT scan: http://www.centrus.com.br/DiplomaFMF/SeriesFMF/11-14weeks/chapter-01/chapter-01-final.htm

Also, the false positive rates are apparently higher with multiple pregnancies as the afp or something like that is thrown off.

My final conclusion was that I knew I wouldn't freak out regardless and it did seem like a good idea to go ahead and see the perinatologist and I did. One of my twins actually ha a kind of high value, 2.3. They didn't say anything, but since I've now had five of these, I knew. There's a cool calculator online that will show you what percentile a given NT value is for a given crown-rump length.

And great shots and yeah for growth and all good thoughts.

NT scan and First Trimester screening is scheduled for this Thursday. Husband can't go so trying to get a girlfriend to go with me. My older sister is totally out of the question.

Good happy thoughts! Also, remember that NT values change with gestational age and crown rump length, so really don't try to interpret yourself too much and if you do, a key fact I figured out is they don't even start to START carrying until over the 95th percentile.

A friend sent me a video link that really makes clear what "large values" are and even the risk of false positives with those. You seem like a type who likes extra info and uses it for positive calming rather than panic, so I thought I'd pass it on in case you want to look. http://ultrasoundlink.net/increased-nuchal-translucency

Is the NT scan going to be at the perinatologist you'll be seeing for the pregnancy?

The scan is actually going to be at the hospital where I will deliver. They have a fetal diagnostic center there. They handle the majority of the multiple deliveries in the area. My OB is just across the street. Lucky me it's 7 blocks away from home. Do you have the link to the calculator you wrote of?

Yes, but it comes with the reminder that interpretation in not based on percentile alone, blood and age and things like that come into play and so think of this as information only ;-).
